Kids & Glasses

What is it with kids and glasses.  I know that growing up, I hated wearing my glasses.  For years it seemed, I just stopped wearing them because I didn’t like them.  Eventually, I think my parents just got tired of reminding me to put on my eyeglasses and gave up.  That was fine with me.  It’s now like my eyes were all that bad, even today some 40 years later.  I still pass all my drivers vision tests without wearing them.  I went for some new prescription glasses the other day, and my ophthalmologist prescribed bifocals.  I figured that was what he was probably going to do.  Even though I got the progressive bifocals, I still couldn’t quite get used to them.  So, I returned them and got a regular pair.

It’s funny how, we can be so resistant to something as kids, but then when grown up we automatically just start caring more about those things.  I’m actually pretty particular about my glasses these days.  I wear mine all the time when working on the computer or watching television.  While my eyes have gotten progressively worse over the years, they’re still not all that bad.  And now, I think wearing glasses is not so bad.  A bit of a fashion statement actually.  Certainly a different feeling then when I was a kid.
