I Never Had Cool Toys Like That When I Was A Kid
I don’t know how many times my kids have heard me say that, but it’s true. It seems like all the toys and stuff kids get to play with today are way better then the stuff I had when I was a kid. Kids of all ages get really neat stuff these days, right from toddlers all the way up to teenagers. And no, I’m not talking about video games and technology gadgets, but real toys. The kind that take a little more effort. Like actually running outdoors and playing in the yard. One of the best toys I think we ever got for our three girls was one of those climbing frame forts you set up in the back yard. It’s got swings, ladders, slides, a little play platform at the top, and a slide to come down in a hurry.
I bought and put one together in our backyard, during my second maternity leave. Our oldest daughter at the time was three, and we were having twins. Even though there was a park just across the street, my wife thought it would be a lot easier to just walk into the backyard. Trying to to coax a three year old, and push twin babies in a stroll would have been a handful. So, one fathers day, so many years ago, I put one up in the backyard. A few years later, I even added an addition to it comprised of climbing rungs, and another ladder. It’s still there to this day, and our oldest is now 16. I think it may be just about time to take it down.
