Really Terrific Tunes For Kids » Kids Movies http://rttkids.com Reviews and recommendations for childrens music Thu, 06 Oct 2011 09:57:09 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.2.1 What Is It With Kids And Movie Marathons http://rttkids.com/what-is-it-with-kids-and-movie-marathons/ http://rttkids.com/what-is-it-with-kids-and-movie-marathons/#comments Thu, 05 Aug 2010 16:44:13 +0000 admin http://rttkids.com/?p=186 Funny thing about kids when it comes to watching movies.  They seem to be able to watch the same movie over and over again.  I don’t remember ever being like that as a kid, but maybe my memory is just failing.  It’s not that I don’t enjoy watching a movie more than once, but I’m pretty selective about what movies I’ll spend extra time with.  Maybe it’s an age thing, and I’m being a little more selective about what I spend my time on.  My kids however will watch movies online free all day long.  I guess it’s just what they like to do.  I have done a few movie marathons in my time though.  I remember years ago sitting in a theater in Boston, and watching all three episodes of the original Starwars series.  That is episodes 4, 5 and 6.  And more recently, I bought tickets to watch all the Lord Of The Rings in a row, when the last one hit the theater.  12 hours of movie magic I say ;)

Now, not every movie is going to be a blockbuster, and be worthy of that much attention from me.  But, there are still some high quality films that are worth watching.  Something that’s a little more dramatic, and with a bit of romance for that significant other in your life would be The Man Who Cried.  Not entirely my cup of tea, but I do enjoy a good intelligent mystery when I can find it like with The Weight Of Water.  I loved MTV when it launched back in the early eighties, and my fascination with music and video continues to this day.  Just check out Center Stage if you want a glimpse of what I mean.

]]> http://rttkids.com/what-is-it-with-kids-and-movie-marathons/feed/ 0 What’s The Best Place For Kids To Watch Movies http://rttkids.com/whats-the-best-place-for-kids-to-watch-movies/ http://rttkids.com/whats-the-best-place-for-kids-to-watch-movies/#comments Fri, 25 Jun 2010 20:45:27 +0000 admin http://rttkids.com/?p=172 When I was growing up, the one and only place to watch the latest movies, was the theater downtown.  How things have changed in a few decades.  Now a days, you can watch movies just about anywhere.  You can  watch movies online, you can watch movies on your iPod, you can watch movies on your television, and you can watch movies on your blu-ray player.  Just lately for instance, I watched the A-Team movie online while at my boat.  Mind you I have a pretty decent internet connection at the marina where I keep my boat.  The kids enjoyed watching it as well.  It’s one of those really fun family movies with plenty of action.

You could also watch Sex and the City 2 movie online if that’s more to your liking.  It’s not one of mine or the kids favorites, but for teenagers on up, it could be fun.  When you get right down to it, just about anywhere is the best place for movie watching by kids or grown ups these days.  After the kids go to bed, you may want to watch Killers (2010) movie online.   It’s a pretty funny one that I really enjoyed.  For the first time the other day, I was watching movies on the bus.  I just got a new Nokia N900 for work, and it can play movies, music and do a whole host of other things as well.  It’s my favorite new toy at the moment.

There are of course the old standbys, where you can pick just about any movie by Disney or Pixar, and your likely to end up with a movie that works well. But I know of a few parents, that aren’t too keen even with those standards. There have been some critics of Disney movies, that suggest they tend to perpetuate too many old stereotypes, and provide a rather whitewash vanilla cultural impression. Personally I think that’s a little harsh, and have always enjoyed the Disney / Pixar films, and so have my kids. You just have to take them in the context that they are intended.

I’ve noticed a recent development with my kids in particular when it comes to watching movies in our home. My girls are just a little beyond the Disney age, as they are 13 and 16. But what’s really funny as of late, is how they will come over with their friends, and start digging through and watching our old collection of Disney VHS movies. Now most of those movies like Lion King, and The Little Mermaid were always made with both children and parents in mind. They had a knack for writing jokes that would appeal to both parents and children. The kids got the jokes they were supposed to get, and the ones that were inappropriate for them, usually went right over their heads.

What’s funny about my kids watching those movies now, is that their old enough to get the jokes they weren’t able to understand as kids (cheetas never prosper). For them, it’s like watching the movie for the first time. It’s a bit of a unique phenomena that didn’t exist for previous generations.  So on that count alone, I think these make great movies for kids.  Now, that kids can watch movies online, I think it’s more important than ever that parents are involved in their childrens movie watching habits.  If your kids are old enough, I think that Alice In Wonderland would be a great move for them to watch online.
